A tIMELESS TRADITION
“It was refreshing to finally see both sides come together to discuss the important issues. Moments like this can change a man for the rest of his life.”
“My friends, never in the entirety of my political career have I ever seen anything remotely close to a debate of this intensity....It rocked me to my core.”
But in all seriousness folks...
The Latke-Hamantash debate has been a UChicago tradition since 1946. Past participants and commentators have included Nobel Prize winners Milton Friedman and Leon Lederman; three university presidents, former Chicago President Hanna Gray, former Princeton University President Harold Shapiro and key people from a wide range of academic disciplines.
While the basic framework has “evolved” a little, the content hasn’t changed... Every year, four of the University’s most prominent scholars waste decades of their accumulated knowledge by applying their respective expertise to this most inane of questions: Which is better? The Latke of the Hamantash? YOU VOTE! YOU DECIDE!
Join over 1,000 UChicago students and professors for an evening of academic fun and frivolity! This year’s debate takes place on the 150th anniversary of my publication of Origin of Species! There must be a joke in there somewhere
Not pie, not cake,
nor biscuit.
Neither am I wafer,
nor crisp.
But taste.
Both moist and dry.
