Lech L'cha & Parent's Weekend

The Torah teaches us in Parshat Lech Lecha, that Abraham was commanded to leave his native land and his father’s house. Previously in Genesis, we read that Abraham’s father, Terach, initiated a journey away from Ur and was joined by Abraham, Sarah and Abraham’s nephew, Lot. While we could read this parasha as encouraging us, like Abraham, to leave our families behind, the Rabbis carefully remind us that Abraham did not abandon his father in his old age. Abraham’s shared his journey with his father- at least part of the way. Have a wonderful Parent’s Weekend and take a moment to talk to the people who helped you become who you are.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Anna
